i believe that Simon is saying that the beast is men, or man in general. We can be great and courageous but be evil and cruel at the same time. I believe that the reason he couldn’t explain this was because of the intensity of the comment. how would you like to say to the littleuns that they are the beast? that they are the ones responsible for all that has happened to them?
